During this time, Venus develops awareness of her gender, and Lynette and Venus struggle to be themselves. It's also the story of how two people found the courage to be themselves through art and the surrounding arts community. Author Information Lynette Reini-Grandell is the author of two books of poetry, Wild Verge and Approaching the Gate, both published by Holy Cow! Press. She teaches English and creative writing at Normandale Community College and the Loft and has received support for her work from the Finlandia Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board. A multidisciplinary collaborator, she performs at spoken-word venues with the Bosso Poetry Company and the jazz collective Sonoglyph. Her poetry is part of a permanent installation at the Carlton Arms Art Hotel in Manhattan. The story of her marriage to Venus DeMars is highlighted in Venus of Mars, a feature-length documentary (2004) by Emily Goldberg that has toured film festivals around the world. Lynette and Venus live in Minneapolis.

2024-09-11 18:00:00Z | Sep 11, 2024 | Sharon Bloodworth | District update | Sep 11, 2024 6:00 PM |
Sharon is our District Governor for Rotary year 2024 to 2025 and her home club is Minneapolis Rotary Club #9. She celebrates her 21st anniversary in Rotary this year!
Sharon owns one of the largest private investment firms wholly owned by a woman in Minnesota and Florida. She says she attributes much of this success to Rotary. This is where she learned her public speaking and leadership skills, and her fellow Rotarians mentored her and welcomed her into this community. She is committed to giving back to Rotary. In 2023 she completed the largest ever fundraiser for our Rotary District – raising $3 million on top of the usual annual $1 million as District Foundation Chair.
For fun she coaches the top 150 women in global tennis on financial behaviors. She is a five-time Minnesota State Fair blue ribbon winning flower arranger and she collects shoes of very famous women including Margaret Thatcher and Audrey Hepburn.
Let's give Sharon a big MN Pride Rotary Club welcome!
